 | Outdoor Movie Projection Booth | | by Ralph Brandt | | published on Jul 14, 2008 | In the 40’s and 50’s outdoor theaters dotted the area. All had a combination projection booth, concession stand and restrooms. It was a lodw building so people could see over it. Haar’s Drive-in near Dillsburg PA is one of two I know of in the Central PA area. There were at least twenty in that area. Families could go for a dollar a car load. Each pole in the lot held two speakers, a car would pull up on each side, take one of the speakers and hang on the window. Not all cars in the fifties had car radios and they would run a battery down in less than a single movie.
