This is a beautiful photo displaying a part of the ancient Greek culture and ancient Greek history. I like the interesting fact about the owl being depicted upon some ancient coins. I never knew this prior to reading your caption. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and beautiful photo of this ancient bronze statuette.

This is a 'modern' reproduction that my wife's father brought back from Rome-maybe(??) I sure that my wife told me once. I just know that I love tis statuette.
I had not noticed before just now, but if you look closely under the body you can see a bit of patina forming. This takes quite some time (she has had this owl for 20 years, maybe? and I am sure that it did not have it then..)

Ahh! I asked my wife about this owl statuette, -her father bought in a a shoppe during an extended layover at Heathrow airport, London, U.K.
Okay, -now *I* want one of my own! The next time one of my in-laws goes to visit Poland by way of London (or for that matter, just keep a sharp eye out for it,) -I want my own bronze Athena Owl.

This is a great photo, If you go to Athens ever you should do some closeups of the real deal. Its really hard as there is no light and no flahsh
