 | The Devil's Wings | | by Emma C S | | published on Aug 23, 2009 | Finally finished my big mixed media piece! The full title is "Vexilla regis prodeunt inferni" which is from Dante's Inferno (there's another quotation from the Inferno written around the edge of the frame This grew out of an image I had in my head of a daemon with wings made of hands into what you see before you. The wings are dozens of hands cut from magazines; the halo is a very scratched CD; the "barbed wire" was hand made out of jewellery wire; the background is acrylic paint and ripped up pages from a Gideon Bible (sections about sin and demons and what-have-you) with embroidered gold occult symbols and some stickers; the figure himself is watercoloured, and the "fabric" is acrylic paint with sequin, bead and gold lace accents. It's all very meaningful and esoteric but I fear I'll run out of room if I explain it, so I'll let it mean what you want it to mean. |
