 | Tournai Font | | by Charles Moorhen | | published on Jan 14, 2011 | The Tournai Font, in the church of All Saints in the Hampshire village of East Meon, was produced by the famous sculptors from Tournai in Flanders.
It came to England around 1150 AD. The lead is highly decorated with a number of illustrations, including the story of Adam and Eve.
The lead is not original. It was made in the 17th century to replace the original lead which was stolen by Civil War soldiers in 1644, melted down, and made into ammunition for their muskets. |
