Double-yolked Egg

We occasionally get eggs with "double yolks" in them. Back on the farm in western New York state, I raised chickens and several of my hens would regularly produce "double yolk" eggs. I let several of the hens "steal the nest" (hide away and let her try to raise a clutch of chicks) but they never hatched. Once or twice though, a chick would almost hatch, and it would have two heads. But the egg "died" a few days before it was about to hatch, probably due to the deformity that would have caused it to not survive anyway if it had hatched...

With bearded dragon reptiles (a popular reptile pet,) it is becoming fairly common for clutches of eggs to have a double-headed lizard be born. Of course, beardies in captivity have proclivity toward reproduction; laying 5 or 6 clutches of eggs, having between 15-25 eggs in each clutch.

I used to raise beardies back in NY state, but never had a 2-headed reptile born. I think it is related to that weirdness of frogs hatching with multiple limbs ...remember that from a year ago? Maybe something in the atmosphere (cosmic radiation, hell I dunno) is affecting these reptiles & amphibs.

My dad liked to get our eggs from farmers. For awhile there was someone at church that brought us eggs. Reason, Dad loved to find a double yoke egg and he claimed farm eggs tasted better.
