A rookery spotted in Milton Keynes. The rooks were flying in and out, and making quite a lot of noise.

What is a rook? Can I safely assume they are some type of bird?

Rooks are members of the crow family, and can be mistaken for carrion crows because they are similar in size. However, rooks can be distinguished by the bare skin on their faces, and their shaggy appearance, with a baggy-trousers look to their legs. There is much folklore and myths surrounding rooks, in particular, that if a rookery is abandoned, then the family that owns the land will have bad luck.
