The Oriental Garden Room Underground in the Cave of the Winds

In the back loop of Cave of the Winds, Colorado, is a room named the Oriental Garden when it was opened in the 1930's. It a highly decorated room containing the cave's longest stalactite at about eight 1/2 feet long (2.5 meters). On the right is a column named Gargoyle's column for the creature-like helictite formations at the top of the stalactite. CotW has some of the most incredible helictites in the world!

These caves are such that are found in the Mountains of Virginia, as well as the Ozarks, in Missouri. I must somedayget out to Colorado to see these Caves of the Winds. Great photography

Yes, Elizabeth, the caves of William's Canyon, Colorado, are limestone karst caves, like 90% of the world's caves. Wherever you have limestone you are bound to have caves. The caves back east have much more water than dry Colorado, so passages and formations are often larger back east (as a general rule), giving Colorado the nickname "CRAWL-orado" among cavers. :D
