Back of Old Shophouse, Singapore

The back of a shophouse in the Sungei Road area in Singapore. Shophouses were shops cum residences. In the past, people used the front part of the ground level as a shop, and the back for the kitchen. The second and third floors were living areas for the owner and his family/dependants.
