 | A Tobacco Drying Shed | | by Ralph Brandt | | published on Nov 17, 2008 | What looks like a barn and isn't a barn in Lancaster County? A tobacco drying shed. Few of the conservative farmers (including but not limited to Amish) use tobacco but some grow it. They grow a high grade tobacco. The tobacco is hung in these barns to dry. To get the proper temperature and dryness the slats on the barn can be opened and closed. Note the rows of hinges on the side of the barn that can be used to provide more or less air. |
