Technically, Stonehenge is not a henge, it is stone circle. The bank and ditch surrounding the monument are inverted as to how a henge is meant to be.
There were roughly five stages of building for Stonehenge, the first being simple totem poles- and the last being the completion of what you see here. However, there are theories that Stonehenge was never completed- hence the lack of stones today. |
