 | A Medium Sized Frame Barn Near Dillsburg | | by Ralph Brandt | | published on Dec 13, 2008 | This barn is a classic barn that was built in the late 1800's and early 1900's on farms here. This one is very likely to be over 150 years old and is well preserved. It is still being used as a barn to store hay and straw for a farm business. The lower level would have had the animals. The upper level is used to store hay and straw.
Tractors and the like were not stored in or near barns as is seen here. They were kept in a tractor or wagon shed that was separated from the barn enough that a fire there would not spread to the barn.
If you look carefully at the right lower corner of the picture you will see a sloped and shaded grass area behind the barn. This is an incline that allowed wagons to be pulled or pushed up into the barn to be unloaded there. It is called a Barn Bridge.
