This always bugs me... seeing sneakers on an overhead like this. It is (in the inner city, anyway) a 'sign' that there is a "runner" nearby. This is someone that takes the money and 'runs' to the drug dealer for the purchase, and returns it to the buyer.
Or, that there is a schoolyard bully and possibly sock-footed meek child nearby...

Around here we have a tree the kids all throw their shoes on at the end of the year. It is kind of a statement that they are free for the summer.
