B-17 Flying Fortress - Tail Gun Position

by Ralph Brandt
published on Feb 21, 2007

This is a picture of the world war ii b-17 "909" flown by the collings foundation while at Harrisburg pa. this is the tail gun position from outside. note the gunner's view was through the area above the guns. these guns, unlike the waists were in a powered turret. tail gunners were selected for small size - like the ball and top gunners - to fit in the gun area. more information can be had about this aircraft at collingsfoundation.org
