Rear Dump Trucks in Action

published on Oct 14, 2007

Euclid-Hitachi ore trucks such as this one are used at the Callide coal mine near Biloela in Central Queensland Australia. They can move a payload of 280 tons each load with their powerful 2013 KW diesel engine. The coal is used mainly for domestic power generation.

I always thought coal was black! Also, I believe the truck weighs 90 T empty, and with a payload of 120 T, grosses out at 210 T. The 280s have tandem axles.

Thanks for the comments Bear. Obviously the material seen here is not coal, but the ore from which the coal has been removed. The information supplied about the trucks came from the company's own blog, and I admit to total ignorance on the technical matters.

Best wishes,

Adrian Michael
