Tree Lichen; algae, lichen, mold, nature

Tree Lichen

Saw this lichen growing from the bark that was laid out for garden decoration. I couldn't pass up taking this picture. There are over 1000 different lichen and new species are being found all the time. But basically lichen is a mix of algae and mold. It mainly grows on rocks and rotting wood.

This is cool! But, I could never get near it b/c I'm allergic to mold.

The mix of algae and mold actually kills the mold when the lichen is created.

This is a fungus, not a lichen at all. Not sure of the exact species though.
