 | Radiant Outburst from the Abstract Appliqué Series | A while back, I put together a series of 3D props as a product line for 3D artists to use in their abstract art work, called Abstract Appliqués. I never really found a good market for them. So I decided to just use them myself and make my own 3D abstracts using these props. |

| | Taking Refuge, {of the Retrieved From Oblivion Series} | They've sat languishing on my computer hard drive, unappreciated & forsaken, some for quite a while. I recently looked through the old files, retrieved them from oblivion, & spruced them up for presentation. Using more of those weird 3D models I used for "Predation in the Spiral Forest" & a fractal based landscape, I designed this composition. Predation continues to be my theme, as the large reddish gray creature in the foreground hunts for prey, & really wants to eat that little blue-green guy taking refuge atop the living purple arch. Like other images of the retrieval project, I wasn't satisfied with my initial results. To get it ready for this presentation, I made multiple copies & layered them with various filter effects & level adjustments, in Photoshop, which enhanced the atmospheric & light/shadow aspects. Subtle adjustments can make a big difference in the way our eyes roam around an image. I'm more pleased with the "eye roam effect" it now stimulates. |

| | Aggressive Blue Draconian, {of the Retrieved From Oblivion Series} | They've sat languishing on my computer hard drive, unappreciated and forsaken, some for quite a while. I recently looked through the old files, retrieved them from oblivion, and spruced them up for presentation. I originally did this image using my laptop computer, while on vacation. I added the digital signature with Photoshop. |
| | Blood Gliders of Planet Napang, {of the Retrieved From Oblivion Series} | They've sat languishing on my computer hard drive, unappreciated and forsaken, some for quite a while. I recently looked through the old files, retrieved them from oblivion, and spruced them up for presentation. Here I created yet another alien world, populated with exotic creatures. In this case they're a mixture of living creatures with bio-tech glider attachments. I originally saw them as cybernetic gliding critters that swoop down and grab their prey with their squirmy hanging tentacles. After playing around with three or four versions, I still wasn't satisfied, and let this image idea fall to the way side. For this retrieval project, I revisited it by opening up the last version of the Bryce file and moved some of the gliding Napangians around a bit. From a compositional standpoint, I think their positions are much better in this version. I then re-rendered, adjusted the contrast, color and auto levels, with Photoshop and came up with this ultimate version. |
| | Predation in the Spiral Forest, {of the Retrieved From Oblivion Series} | They've sat languishing on my computer hard drive, unappreciated and forsaken, some for quite a while. I recently looked through the old files, retrieved them from oblivion, and spruced them up for presentation. This project originally involved my use of some pretty strange 3D models I purchased on-line, plus some models I created using the 3D fractal program XenoDream. My original vision was to depict an exotic alien environment, populated with weird unearthly critters. While I think I achieved the basic goal, I still wasn't satisfied with the end results of this first attempt. My intention was to revisit this one, and do some different versions, rather I moved on to other projects, and let it slide. I may yet return to this project some time in the future, and see what I can do to give this alien environment a more out of this world edge. With Photoshop, I put the image through layering, color, contrast, and auto level adjustments, & used "liquefy" filter to touch up. |
| | Trans-dimensional Obfuscator, {of the Retrieved From Oblivion Series} | They've sat languishing on my computer hard drive, unappreciated & forsaken, some for quite a while. I recently looked through the old files, retrieved them from oblivion, & spruced them up for presentation. Using Bryce, this image came out of some experiments I did with a program feature called "metaballs", coupled with the multi-replication process. For several days, I played around with different variations on the theme. I produced a great many images from these experiments. This rendering was one of my more interesting results. Preparing it for this series required the least work. With just a little minor filtering and level adjustments in Photoshop, the trans-dimensional obfuscator was ready to go to work. Only thing is, I'm not sure just what a trans-dimensional obfuscator actually does. Too bad its not got a shiny red button I could push so we could find out. On second thought, it's probably best we don't know. |
