Lantana Camara( Pink)

Lantana camara is one of those really attractive "weeds" which have been introduced as ornamentals in gardens. The circles of tiny flowers give an air of fragility, which is pretty ironic given that this plant is extremely hardy. Picture taken at HortPark, Singapore.

Lantana Camara (Multi-coloured)

In the Malaysia of my growing-up days, these are pretty common "weeds". Today, you can see them grown as ornamental plants in gardens. Very pretty! But I understand that in some areas, the lantana is considered a nuisance because it's so hardy that it hurts the growth of other plants.

Ixora Buds

Very young buds with just a hint of a blush. This particularly bush produces red flowers. Ixora is a floral shrub native to Asia. The ixora is commonly used as hedges in the tropics. Picture taken in Singapore.

Heliconia (alexandra Hospital, Singapore)

The heliconia is a popular choice for modern tropical gardens because of its dramatic colour(s), and the sculptural shape of its flowers. These heliconia on the grounds of Singapore's Alexandra Hospital (which has a fantastic garden) caught my eye because they look like two very exuberant dancers. The heliconia is also known as lobster-claw, wild plantain and false bird-of-paradise.

Cat's Whiskers (Orthosiphon Aristatus) with White Flowers

The plant is so-named because of its flowers resemble cat's whiskers ("misai kucing" in malay). It is well-known as a malay herbal remedy. Tea made from its leaves is believed to be effective for the treatment of gout, diabetes and rheumatism. Picture taken in Singapore.

Painted Chinese Drum

Painted Chinese drum used as a decorative item outside a foodcourt in VivoCity, Singapore.

Curry Leaves

The leaves of the curry plant Murraya koenigii are commonly used for cooking in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore. The distinctive fragrance and flavour of curry leaves make it a must for curry lovers. Curry leaves are also available in dried form.

Chinese New Year Lion

This lion graced the entrance of Jurong Point, a shopping in Singapore during Chinese New Year 2009. (Shopping malls are usually decorated with blossoms, lanterns, lions, and other auspicious symbols etc. during the Chinese New Year season.) Picture taken in Singapore.

Tree Bark with Moss

Striking bright green moss can be seen growing on this bark. Picture taken in Singapore.

Sri Krishnan Temple, Singapore

The Sri Krishnan Temple (Waterloo St, Singapore), established in 1870, is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore. Very special about this temple: Chinese people who visit the nearby Kwan Im temple for prayers would very often also offer prayers outside the Hindu temple. The picture here shows this phenomenon.
